Counselling skills for the workplace

A tool to help with performance issues

Once described as ‘the most powerful and useful course I have ever been on’ by one of our delegates, this training has much to offer managers and directors at all levels.

The speed and complexity of today’s workplace places enormous demands on us all. Expectations are rising. For a variety of reasons managers find under-performance within their teams. Using a ‘counselling approach’ to identify and acknowledge issues and to support the individual to find solutions to maximise performance can be invaluable. This is a challenging course as it often requires managers to rethink and redefine their habitual responses to people problems and performance issues. By learning these new techniques and ways of responding, managers will acquire a powerful tool which may well prevent issues escalating to disciplinary/conduct and capability routes.

Our counselling skills course outline includes:

  • Recognising other management approaches used and possible drawbacks
  • Benefits of counselling skills
  • Revisiting key interpersonal skills

  • The stages and structure for effective workplace counselling
  • Selection of scenarios eg:

-Managing the poor performer,
